Statement on Standards for Attestation Engagements – SSAE 18 refers to a series of improvements that aim at increasing the functionality and quality of SOC reports. SSAE 18 reports supersede their predecessor SSAE 16 and SAS 70. New changes made will require the organizations to take better control and ownership of their internal controls.
These controls revolve around the identification and differentiation of risk factors and managing third-party vendor associations responsibly. The purpose of these changes is not to burden the participating organization but to help close the loops that affect the core areas of industry as observed in several service organization’s reports. The SOC – System Organization Control Report will now be submitted under SSAE-18 standard. There will be only two additional sections and controls that will be used to enhance the quality and content. This will help the third parties to rely better on the organizations.
