Steps to Hide Products From Search Functionality in Shopify Store

You want your specific target market to access these products using a direct link. Thus, it’s crucial to ensure these products don’t appear in the store search or Google search functionality.

A lot of times store owners try to hide these products by changing the product status to draft. However, that is not the right technique since it would make it unavailable to those with a direct link as well.

Even though you can hide products using product tags and editing code on the collection or search page template, even a minor mistake with coding might result in a messed-up collection page.

So how do you edit the code without having to “edit the code” on your collection or search page?

You use the “metafields” function of Shopify to hide the product. Shopify 2.0 enables you to leverage this feature for free, unlike other third-party apps that are not only paid but also put your store data at risk.

Step 1: Go to the Shopify Admin and click on the settings in the bottom left corner.

Step 2: Go to the Shopify Metafields section.

Step 3: In this section, create a new metafield for the product under product metafields.

Step 4: Now, click on the new definition button, and in the “Name” field enter “Seo”

Step 5: Then, in the Namespace and key section, write “seo.hidden”

Step 6: Set the field type to integer.

Step 7: Now, go to the products page and open any product which you want to hide.

Step 8: Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for Metafields.

Step 9: Set the value to 1 in the Metafields and your product will be hidden from the search functionality.
